North Carolina Day Care Centers

North Carolina day care centers must meet specific criteria to retain their license, most importantly perhaps keeping to an ironclad ration of children-to-staff. This ratio is different for different age groups, with infants requiring the most attention, and requiring one staff member or attendant for every five children. Older children require less supervision according to North Carolina state requirements, with children above two and a half years requiring just one attendant for every ten children, and children above four years requiring an attendant only for every twenty children. Many North Carolina day care centers operate sophisticated activities, such as horse riding and lessons in various musical instruments. There are also gymnastics and athletics classes. North Carolina is also interesting in that many day care centers are run by Christian organizations, and provide day care with a uniquely Christian outlook, including providing bible classes for children. The law requires that any day care center that serves more than five children be licensed.
