Virginia Day Care Centers

The regulations that govern Virginia day care centers are formulated by the Child Day-Care Council of Virginia. However, the CDCC does not enforce the regulations it creates ∼ that function is carried out by the State department of social services, which operates inspections of all operational day care centers at least two times a year, besides running special unannounced inspections as well as inspection based on actual complaints. There are also annual inspections for fire safety. Besides this a facility in the state of Virginia is required by law to deposit insurance for public liability for five hundred thousand dollars for every injury that occurs on the premises of Virginia day care centers. Inspections also ensure that there are no general safety hazards on the premises, and that all the equipment, toys and outdoor facilities that the children use meet standards of child safety. The state requires that a facility have at least twenty five square feet of floor space per child.
